Nine rooms in the main manor and five in the brick kitchen house. No two floorplans repeat; each features twelve-foot plaster cornices and working fireplaces.
Master plasterers and blacksmiths stripped six layers of modern latex to uncover original Charleston grey brick, horsehair lath, and hand-forged iron latches.
Anchored by a century-old loquat tree, sour orange espaliers, and night-blooming confederate jasmine where breakfast and twilight aperitifs are poured.
When travellers arrive, they are often forced to choose between cavernous convention hotels on noisy thoroughfares or Victorian inns heavy with velvet swags and porcelain clutter. Aurelia House was conceived as a third path: an architectural sanctuary where restraint, natural light, and Southern hospitality exist in quiet proportion.
During our three-year restoration, every intervention was guided by the house’s 1894 carpentry. Where river-recovered cypress floorboards had worn smooth over a century of footsteps, we left their undulating patina intact. In the baths, unlacquered brass fixtures from small foundries sit beside honed soapstone slabs and deep soaking tubs positioned to catch morning sun filtering through interior wooden shutters.
There is no check-in queue. You are met at the wrought-iron carriage gate with a cold glass of verbena tea or a small pour of Madeira, handed a heavy brass key on a leather fob, and walked through the parterre courtyard to your chamber. At dusk, the rooftop library and bar opens exclusively to house guests and a handful of neighbours for coastal oysters and low-intervention wines overlooking the church steeples of the peninsula.
Leave your car with our valet—or arrive without one. From our carriageway gate, cobblestone alleys shaded by live oaks lead directly to the Gibbes Museum, Dock Street Theatre, and the salt air of White Point Garden. Every room includes two custom steel town bicycles and our printed pocket map.
